Baer Crossey McDemus Welcomes Robert Auritt as a Partner, Enhances the Firm’s Digital Media Practice and Adds Esports Focus

PHILADELPHIA, PA – April 20, 2018) Baer Crossey McDemus LLC, a Philadelphia- and Pittsburgh-based law firm, is excited to welcome Robert Auritt to the firm as a Partner.  Rob brings to the firm extensive in-house and law firm experience as a transactional attorney in the entertainment, sports, and technology spaces where he has advised clients on a wide variety of commercial matters, including, software and content licensing agreements, music licensing agreements, digital distribution agreements, technology transfers, copyright protection, trademark prosecution and enforcement, and privacy issues.  Lately he has been particularly focused on the rapidly evolving world of esports, primarily through his continuing representation of the Philadelphia Fusion, a team in the recently launched Overwatch League.

Prior to joining Baer Crossey McDemus, Rob spent nearly a decade working in legal roles across the Comcast family of companies. Most recently he was Vice President and Deputy General Counsel to Comcast Spectacor, the wholly owned subsidiary of Comcast that owns the Philadelphia Flyers and the Philadelphia Fusion.  Before that, Rob was the lead digital media lawyer for NBC Sports and the Comcast regional sports networks.  In addition to his experience at Comcast, Rob represented clients in technology and intellectual property transactions at Pepper Hamilton and spent almost five years at The Harry Fox Agency, Inc., the primary agency representing music publishers in connection with the licensing of mechanical reproduction rights, where he focused on helping with HFA’s shift to the digital world.  Rob has been counseling new media clients since the dawn of the commercial Internet and has represented website designers and developers, content creators, authors, musicians, technologists and some of the earliest movers in the digital music business.

“Rob is one of the premier technology lawyers in the Philadelphia region and helps us achieve our goal of building a truly national caliber Technology and Data Privacy practice group in an entrepreneurial boutique law firm setting,” said Andrew Baer, a Co-Founder and Managing Partner of the Firm.  “Additionally, with his background in music and entertainment law and esports, Rob adds significant subject matter expertise to our technology and IP practices.”

As part of its growth strategy, Baer Crossey McDemus continues to seek opportunities to augment the firm’s legal products and service offerings and attract experienced talent with the combination of business and legal acumen to support innovative and growth-oriented clients.  The firm is committed to helping its clients, which range from pre-funded startups to Fortune 500 companies, build and protect value.  The addition of highly experienced subject matter experts in the venture capital, private equity and mergers and acquisitions areas who share the firm’s entrepreneurial vision will fuel its continued growth in the Philadelphia and Pittsburgh markets and its planned expansion into other technology hubs.
