Baer Crossey McDemus Welcomes Former Deputy City Solicitor Benjamin Mishkin as an Associate

(PHILADELPHIA, PA – February 16, 2018) Baer Crossey McDemus LLC, a Philadelphia- and Pittsburgh-based law firm, is excited to welcome Benjamin Mishkin to the firm as an Associate.  Ben is well-versed in data use and data license agreements governing the exchange of confidential data, including trade secret information, Protected Health Information under HIPAA, drug/alcohol and mental health information governed by federal and state regulations, criminal history information, and other sensitive data types.  Ben has negotiated complex data-sharing agreements with state and federal government agencies, as well as privately owned non-profits and corporations.  In the software realm, Ben has drafted and negotiated agreements for the development and deployment of complex multi-vendor software solutions, including SaaS agreements and cloud-based storage agreements.  Ben also has experience in federal and state trademark clearance, filing, prosecution and maintenance, as well as negotiating trademark and copyright license agreements.

Prior to joining Baer Crossey McDemus, Benjamin was a Deputy City Solicitor in the City of Philadelphia Law Department’s IP & Technology Division, where he negotiated software and other technology agreements and advised City departments regarding best practices for data management and data sharing, both inside the City and with external partners.  Ben also served as a member of the Data Subcommittee on the 2017 Philadelphia Mayor’s Taskforce to Combat the Opioid Epidemic.

Benjamin is a 2012 graduate of Temple University’s Beasley School of Law, where he was a Note & Comment Editor for the Political & Civil Rights Law Review.

“It’s difficult to find talented associates with experience in both complex technology transactions and regulated data privacy matters, both of which are rapidly growing core practice areas for our firm,” said Managing Partner and Co-Founder Andrew Baer.  “Ben brings significant subject-matter expertise and maturity in handling technology and privacy issues from a transactional as well as a compliance standpoint, and he will be a formidable addition to our crack team of cyberlaw associates at a time when clients’ needs are only getting more and more sophisticated.”

As part of its growth strategy, Baer Crossey McDemus continues to seek opportunities to augment the firm’s legal products and service offerings and attract experienced talent with the combination of business and legal acumen to support innovative and growth-oriented clients.  The firm is committed to helping its clients, which range from pre-funded startups to Fortune 500 companies, build and protect value.  The addition of highly experienced subject matter experts in the corporate, technology, data privacy and intellectual property fields who share the firm’s entrepreneurial vision will fuel its continued growth in the Philadelphia and Pittsburgh markets and its planned expansion into other technology hubs.
