Baer Crossey McDemus Welcomes Matthew Klahre as an Associate

(PHILADELPHIA, PA – October 3, 2016)  Baer Crossey McDemus LLC, a Philadelphia-based law firm, is excited to welcome Matthew Klahre to the firm as an Associate in the Technology and Data Privacy practice group.  Matt brings to the firm experience advising clients on software and other technology transactions (including open source licensing), privacy, and trademark clearance and prosecution.  Matt obtained his Juris Doctor summa cum laude from Drexel University Thomas R. Kline School of Law (Concentration in Intellectual Property Law), where he was Executive Editor of Articles for the Drexel Law Review and participated in the Entrepreneurial Law Clinic advising startup clients on a variety of technology and intellectual property matters.  Matt also presented a workshop on open source licensing at Philly Tech Week 2016.  Previously, he worked as an Intellectual Property Legal Intern at the law firm of Eckert Seamans Cherin & Mellott, LLC, where he assisted in all aspects of trademark prosecution and litigation practice as well as trademark licensing.  Matt also obtained his Bachelor of Science degree cum laude from Drexel University.

“Matt has a passion for technology and IP law, and has an unusually keen insight for the business and technical as well as the legal aspects of technology licensing and services deals,” said Andrew Baer, a Co-Founder and Managing Partner of the firm. “His familiarity and experience with open source licensing will enable him to make a significant contribution to this rapidly growing part of our practice, where we represent a number of software vendors and developers who leverage open source.  His prior work in trademark clearance and prosecution, including filings and proceedings in the Trademark Office, also makes his experience unusually broad for a young lawyer, which will be of great benefit to our startup and emerging growth clients.”

“Matt took my Venture Capital and Private Equity class at Drexel University’s law school and was a real stand-out student,” said Christopher McDemus, a Managing Partner of the firm.  “He was the first person that came to mind when our firm started discussing the need for a new junior level attorney in the Technology and Data Privacy and Security Group.”

As part of its growth strategy, Baer Crossey McDemus continues to seek opportunities to augment the firm’s legal products and service offerings and attract experienced talent with the combination of business and legal acumen to support innovative and growth-oriented clients.  The firm is committed to helping its clients, which range from pre-funded startups to Fortune 500 companies, build and protect value.  The addition of highly experienced subject matter experts in the startup and emerging growth areas who share the firm’s entrepreneurial vision will fuel its continued growth in the Philadelphia and Pittsburgh markets and its planned expansion into other technology hubs.
