Baer Crossey McDemus Welcomes Joel Ruffini as Associate

(PHILADELPHIA, PA – April 21, 2016)  Baer Crossey McDemus LLC, a Philadelphia-based law firm, is excited to welcome Joel Ruffini to the firm as an Associate.  Joel brings to the firm experience advising clients on all aspects of company formation and capital raising transactions, as well as experience with mergers and acquisitions.  He also acts as outside general counsel to emerging growth companies and helps with day-to-day contracts, corporate governance, and counsels clients on the legal issues they face in their business operations.  Previously, he advised startups and entrepreneurs on both corporate and technology matters while running his own private practice.  Joel obtained his Juris Doctor from Drexel University Thomas R. Kline School of Law (Concentration in Business and Entrepreneurship Law), where he was President of the Drexel Business Law Organization, a board member of the Drexel Entrepreneurship Association for Graduate Students and Alumni, and a competitor on the Transactional Lawyering Team.  He currently serves on the Drexel Law Alumni Council.  Joel obtained a Bachelor of Science degree and Bachelor of Arts degree from University of Minnesota.

“Joel reached out to our firm about his desire to work with startups and emerging growth companies starting all the way back when he was a 3L in law school,” said Christopher McDemus, a Managing Partner of the firm. “We kept in close contact as Joel graduated and started his own practice working with startups.  We were impressed with Joel’s work product, his work ethic and networking capabilities but more so with the level of entrepreneurial spirit he showed by building a law practice from scratch right out of law school – a level of entrepreneurial spirit that was akin to our own.”

“Its rare that you see a young lawyer that has been able to become so immersed in the entrepreneurial ecosystem,” said Michael Crossey, a Co-Founder and Managing Partner of the firm.  “We were really impressed that Joel was able to represent clients like Webjunto, which is a great technology and development company in the Philadelphia startup community.   Joel has shown a real passion for helping early stage entrepreneurs and we’re excited to work with him to continue to build Baer Crossey McDemus’ Emerging Companies and Technology Practice.”

As part of its growth strategy, Baer Crossey McDemus continues to seek opportunities to augment the firm’s legal products and service offerings and attract experienced talent with the combination of business and legal acumen to support innovative and growth-oriented clients.  The firm is committed to helping its clients, which range from pre-funded startups to Fortune 500 companies, build and protect value.  The addition of highly experienced subject matter experts in the startup and emerging growth areas who share the firm’s entrepreneurial vision will fuel its continued growth in the Philadelphia and Pittsburgh markets and its planned expansion into other technology hubs.
