BAER CROSSEY MCDEMUS ADDS FULL-SERVICE INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY AND IP/COMMERCIAL LITIGATION PRACTICES
(PHILADELPHIA, PA – December 16, 2015) Baer Crossey McDemus LLC, a law firm based in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, is excited to welcome Kevin Drucker as a Partner and head of the firm’s new Intellectual Property and Litigation practice groups, and David Cargille as Of Counsel. Kevin and David bring to the firm extensive experience advising clients on all aspects of domestic and international patents, trademarks, copyrights, domain names, and trade secrets, including prosecution, licensing, validity, clearance, registrability, and intellectual property strategy and management issues. Kevin and David also bring extensive litigation experience, both in the intellectual property area as well as in general commercial matters; they have tried numerous cases in both the state and federal courts in addition to having a rapidly growing appellate practice.
Previously, Kevin and David practiced at Mendelsohn, Drucker & Dunleavy, P.C., an intellectual property and litigation boutique where Kevin was a name partner. Prior to Mendelsohn, Drucker, Kevin practiced in the areas of patents, trademarks, domain names, copyrights, trade secrets, licensing and litigation at Hayes Soloway P.C. and Hofheimer Nusbaum P.C. (now Williams Mullen P.C.). Kevin obtained his Juris Doctor from the University of Virginia School of Law, where he was the Editor-in-Chief of the Virginia Law Weekly, and his LL.M. in Intellectual Property and Technology Transfer from Franklin Pierce Law Center (now University of New Hampshire School of Law). He also obtained his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Virginia. In addition to his legal practice, Kevin has served multiple times as a Guest Lecturer in patent issues in the Legal Aspects of Entrepreneurship class at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. Articles authored by Kevin include “Bars to Patentability: A Guide for the General Practitioner,” published in Arizona Attorney Magazine (January 2005), and his speaking engagements include “Intellectual Property Law Primer,” Inventor’s Association of Arizona (Tucson, Arizona, 2004), “The Effect of the Internet on the On-Sale Bar of U.S. Patent Law,” Arizona State Bar Convention (Phoenix, Arizona, 2004), and “Patent Law Primer,” IdeaFunding Workshop (Tucson, Arizona, 2003). Kevin has also been an editor and contributor to an encyclopedia article in American Jurisprudence on alternative dispute resolution in intellectual property and technology disputes.
Like Kevin, David has over 15 years of practice experience in patents, trademarks, domain names, copyrights, trade secrets, licensing and litigation. Prior to Mendelsohn, Drucker, David worked in intellectual property and complex litigation at Synnestvedt & Lechner LLP and Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP. He is a graduate of New York Law School (summa cum laude), where he was a member of the NYLS Law Review, and the Stevens Institute of Technology, where he obtained his Bachelor of Engineering degree in Electrical Engineering.
“We’ve long wanted to augment our cutting edge technology transaction, data privacy and ‘soft IP’ practice with a deep bench in patents and ‘hard IP,’ both on the prosecution and the dispute side,” said Andrew Baer, a Managing Partner of the firm. “It’s exciting and extremely unusual for a small boutique corporate law firm to be able to deliver this kind of expertise, not to mention firepower, in technology and IP matters. And we’re doing this while remaining passionately committed to our model of being both business-savvy and cost-efficient for our growth and technology clients.”
“The addition of Kevin and David caps off a great year for our firm. Not only has our client base continued to grow vertically and horizontally, but our firm itself has grown and expanded geographically and in the expertise it can offer,” said Chris McDemus, a Managing Partner of the firm. “I echo the sentiment of my partner Andy Baer. Adding the ability to prosecute and litigate patents, as well as building on our ability to do the same for trademarks, is considerable. We are now a one-stop-shop for corporate, technology, transactional, financing and intellectual property services.”
As part of its growth strategy, Baer Crossey McDemus continues to seek opportunities to develop the firm’s legal products and service offerings and attract experienced talent with the combination of business and legal acumen to support innovative and growth-oriented clients. In this regard, the addition of Kevin Drucker and David Cargille have given the firm the ability to broaden its suite of services to include all aspects of intellectual property as well as IP and commercial litigation. Baer Crossey McDemus is committed to helping its clients, which range from pre-funded startups to Fortune 500 companies, build and protect value, and the addition of highly experienced subject matter experts in the critical IP and litigation areas who share the firm’s entrepreneurial vision will fuel its continued growth in the Philadelphia and Pittsburgh markets and its planned expansion into other technology hubs.
